Did you just receive a Visa gift card for Christmas? They’re one of the most popular items to receive, but they can be a little confusing in regards to how to use these Visa cards to shop online. The Visa Gift Card is a prepaid Visa debit card that cannot be reloaded and you cannot withdrawal money at the ATM. They are limited use cards and once the balance is removed, you cannot shop with them any longer.
How to use a Visa Gift Card to Shop Online
You can try to use your Visa Gift Card to shop online, but most websites will reject the transaction due to an AVS mismatch. An AVS mismatch is when the address of the credit or debit card does not match the billing address that you have entered.
If a website allows the transaction to go through, that means that site has really low fraud prevention. Most websites will require that the billing address input exactly matches the one associated with the card.
You can use the Visa Gift Card to shop online after you register the gift card with the provider. If it is a Vanilla Visa gift card, all you need to do is visit the Visa website at and register the card there. If you have an American Express prepaid card, then you’ll need to call customer service with American Express to register the card. The number for customer service varies, so you want to flip the card over and call the 1-800 number on the back.
